Massive Fire Breaks Out In Little Village Pallet Yard

The fire at 25th Street and Rockwell Avenue raged for about two hours, but no one was injured. Wind and the density of wood made it difficult to extinguish, fire officials said.

LITTLE VILLAGE — A fire at a pallet manufacturer broke out in Little Village Monday night.

The fire started at about 6:30 p.m. at 25th Street and Rockwell Avenue and was out by 8:30 p.m., fire officials said. There would numerous pallets and pieces of raw wood in the yard on fire, and no injuries were reported.

Fire department spokesperson Larry Langford said the fire originated in the pallet yard, but they haven't yet determined what caused the fire.

The density of the pallets and lumber, combined with the wind, made it difficult for firefighters to extinguish and required the use of foam units to cut off oxygen to the fire, Langford said.
